Just like traditional schooling, home schooling has both its advantages and disadvantages. This form of schooling has its own unique fortes and strengths. Some of the great things about home schooling can never be found in any other form of schooling. In the same manner, its downsides are also unique to home schooling alone. As moms and teachers at the same time, it is your responsibility and role to be aware of these pros and cons to be able to make sound judgment especially with your kids' education on the line.

Abeka Curriculum - Abeka Homeschool

Abeka curriculum is characterized by the amount of exposure it gives to your child, and the quality of intellectual challenges your child encounters. This learning system involves a real lot of reading. So if your child loves reading books and is sharp and attentive then Abeka may be the ideal way to go for him/her.

Learning Styles Test - VARK Model

Several learning theories have been proposed to model the way that children learn. The ELT model by David Klob, experience-driven model by Honey and Mumford, mind perception model by Anthony Gregorc and the Sudbury Model of Democratic Education are some well-known learning models for children. However, the simplistic VARK model proposed by Fleming is the most widely accepted model.

According to the VARK model, children learn from four major styles. Each child tends to show one of these four styles as his/her primary inbuilt learning method and some of the other styles may occur in some children as secondary learning styles. You need to identify the primary learning style of your child, and base your homeschooling curriculum to best leverage that. If you also find that you child has a secondary style then you may want to mold some additional components of that style too to add further balance in the curriculum.

Not all learning programs are suitable for all students because of their individual preferences and behavior. It is crucial for you to understand that each child has a unique learning style that should be the basis for an effective home education program.Different learning styles require different approaches and techniques.

Teach Baby To read

Once a baby crosses three years of age and enters childhood, the prospect to naturally teach reading gradually starts to subside. At and after this stage, the difficulty of acquiring such important soft skills gradually increases and as a result the same lessons that would have been a cakewalk for the child earlier now becomes a difficult challenge to overcome.

Homeschool Lesson Plans

Unlike regular schooling where teachers constantly trade ideas and teaching methods, home schooling requires a lot from parents like you when it comes to finding suitable lessons. Because home schooling does not require parents to standardize lessons for the sake of slow learner like in regular schools, it provides children and parents alike greater freedom over the selection of lessons. The liberty that parents achieve through home schooling should be tempered with ample knowledge of proper teaching styles and strategies to make for a well-balanced homeschool curriculum.
