Parents, especially
mothers, who are considering home schooling
for their children, often wonder if there
is a genuine need for their kids to be home
schooled. This is a valid concern of parents.
After all, home schooling is very different
from traditional or regular schooling. Not
all children are fit for regular schooling.
At the same time, not all kids are bound for
home schooling. Parents need to determine
the validity of the need to have their children
home schooled.
Because children
are different from each other, even with siblings,
you have to consider all the options and alternatives
before deciding on a definite schooling method.
If a child is home schooled while his or her
siblings go to regular schools, then the arrangement
can create potential problems for the entire
family.

Home
schooling might be viewed by the siblings as a privilege
they are not entitled to. To prevent this sense
of injustice, you should take careful consideration
of the initial reasons for even taking into account
home schooling.
So, when
should you consider home schooling for your child
or children? Well, there are a lot of factors you
have to consider first before deciding whether to
push through with your original plans or not. First,
ask yourself if your child is fit for regular school.
Is he sociable? Does he learn at a much faster pace?
Sometimes, the repetitive activities and schedules
at school makes children lose interest and as a
result, refuse to go to school. This is often the
case with kids two or three years after entering
school.
Children
need a relaxed atmosphere to learn. If the school
fails to provide this ambiance, then children will
naturally yearn for an environment they are familiar
with - home. Sometimes, the stress of everyday commute
and schooling can take its toll on children. When
this happens, oftentimes, the best way is to enroll
them in home schooling. With a relaxed atmosphere,
children will feel comfortable. The ambiance can
lead to the better facilitation of learning and
a faster rate of learning as well.
If your
child or children learn at a faster pace, then you
might have to consider home schooling as an alternative.
Generally, public schools have to teach at the rate
of the slowest child. This would mean that if your
child is gifted, then he might be wasting a lot
of his talent and time in regular school. If this
is the case, then you might have to seriously consider
home schooling. Try to know if your child gets bored
with school. Then check his progress with his teachers.
If he shows signs of boredom yet achieve exceptional
marks, then your child should be given an opportunity
to pursue more advanced lessons and not linger and
wait for slow learners to catch up.

Home schooling
can become a valuable tool
for parents who understand the need for
better education for their children. Besides,
gifted children can develop severe behavioral
problems if they are forced to wait for the
entire class to catch up. Their sense of confidence
and self esteem can be severely affected.
For example, an excellent student can lose
his self confidence if his high IQ or intelligence
is disregarded by the school or teacher in
favor of his slower classmates. Instead of
nurturing the child's gifts, the school is
effectively ignoring his intelligence. As
a result, he may develop personality trait
defects and feel overlooked by the very same
people and system that's supposed to develop
him.

Some
parents also rely on home schooling for children
who are physically or mentally disadvantaged. For
them, the only recourse is to provide specialized
care and education for their child. Most schools
are ill-equipped to deal with the needs of special
children and can greatly impede their progress.
Because of this, many parents feel that home schooling
is the only way their children can achieve a high
level of education without exposing them to further
risks.
Bullying
can also be a big factor in choosing home schooling.
Most often, children do not report bullying to parents
or even teachers. But it can be a very significant
issue especially for children who suffer constantly
under bullies. Because children often keep to themselves
especially when they are troubled by bullies, it
is up to you as a parent to find out of your children
have become victims of bullying. There are several
signs to look out for whenever bullying is involved.
The first noticeable sign is a sudden shift of a
child's behavior from being open to being reclusive.
A child who is being harassed by a bully can shy
away from his or her social groups and regular activities.
If you notice this in your own children, then it
is advisable that you consider confronting the issue
at once.
If bullying
is in fact affecting your children's schooling,
then it might be high time to give home schooling
a serious thought. After all, school isn't just
a place to learn, it's also an important place for
children to socialize and develop their social skills.
With bullies present and posing a serious threat
to your child's mental and emotional stability,
home schooling might be right for your child.
Children
with special needs require the best schooling
possible. Home schooling provides an added benefit
because of the relaxed and familiar atmosphere at
home. This can greatly improve the quality of life
and education of a child. With home schooling becoming
popular, there is an increasing need for parents
to really determine if their children are fit for
home schooling. Arriving at a decision entails a
lot of thought and consideration. Choosing home
schooling should not be taken lightly.
