when the kids come home from dads why are they so needy?

I am a 34 year old male who has a girlfriend wth a 2 year old boy and a 3 year old girl. They are well mannered kids and I love to spend all my free time I can with them. I don't have kids personally but want to. My girlfriend and I have been dating for about a year and we are talking about marriage. The kids are great when we have them together its just the first day or two when they come back from their fathers they are so needy. I understand that they miss her but they are so sassy. To her and I. After that first day they are better and everything seems to go back to normal. Is this something I should be concearned about? Or is it something on the line of breaking bad habits they may have picked up. My girlfriend and I have talked about this so many times and we are both puzzeled. We both know we are not the only ones with this issue. Please help.
