What plans/goals do parents have for their children?

by Xizhen
(Singapore)

Hi, I'm a psychology undergraduate and I'm currently doing a project on the goals of parenting. I would like to know more about the goals that parents usually have for their children and any ideas related to child rearing practices.

Any replies would be much appreciated!:)
Thanks,Xizhen.

Responsible person when they grow up
by: Racheal

Hi,
I am a mother of 2 kids. The older kid is 4 and the younger is just turning 2. My goal would be to see them grow up to be responsible adults. By that i mean that they should be responsible in every aspect (though i know that is not an easy goal). Some of the things that i am doing or am planning to do with my kids are to teach them to answer for their own actions. This is especially so for my older child. Parenting is never a one-off effort. It takes a consistent and repeated reminders to see values being 'caught' by our children. I am using the word "caught" on purpose here because i do believe that kids learn through observations. Many values that are "taught" to them will be of no use if we as parents are doing the exact opposite. Leading by example is what i hope to achieve. Saying that, i have still got a long way to go.....sad to say that i have failed many times too.

Luv,
Racheal
