Sorry I didn't read that you were looking for a 6 year old to answer your question. But since I'm already writing, chronologically I'm 33 years old; however I have Autism. I act like a 4 year old at least half of the time. A lot of times I suddenly act like a 4 year old without even be conscious that I am acting like one. Emotionally and socially, I'm about where a 4 1/2 year old should be. I certainly am articulate with my writing as you can tell, though.
So what do I want to be when I grow up? My answer: I never grew up. Or a better answer to your question is: a toddler. Partly because of the fact I'm like a 4 year old in many ways, I also have quite a few friends who are toddlers or preschoolers or young children aged 2-8. I have observed toddlers/preschoolers and how they act for 20 years. I notice that many of them are not even close as judgmental as adults are. Adults fight, and create wars, and are racist, and hate, but children do not do that. 4 year olds might fight, but it's more along the lines of "Bobby threw sand in my eye" and 5 minutes later, everything is forgiven and the kids are back to playing with each other or talking with each other like nothing even happened in the first place. Unlike adults, who become jaded and hold grudges for 40 years sometimes. It also really grieves me when I see toddlers grow up and become criminals as teens or adults. It has gotten to the point where I wish everyone stayed like a toddler mentally/physically so we wouldn't have all these problems in our world. I think like a 4 year old in many respects, and I know a child development professor at state university who has a PhD in Child Development and has taught 37 years at 3 different universities. He told me recently that out of all the people he ever met, including probably 10,000 students he has had in his life as a professor, he has never met anyone who was more understanding or caring of children or who cared about their welfare. That is a very high compliment coming from a person in the child development realm who has taught 37 years.
I watch Barney, Care Bears, and Teletubbies all the time. My interests are more of what a 4 year old would be interested in, than a 33 year old or a 18 year old. Little kids truly respect me because I guess to them, I am like a larger species of child. And I'm also very fun loving.
Thank you

What do you mean? by: Judy
HI Michelle, I am not sure if i interpreted your question correctly. Do you mean an expected answer from a 6 year old child?
If this is what you meant, I think it depends a lot on the child's understanding of a profession and why grown ups have to work. At the age of 6, i am quite sure he could understand. But the question is what kind of profession are you referring to? An example could be that the child may have gotten the idea from media ,e.g the television, about superheroes, and may want to grow up to be one himself!
I am not 100% sure if i answer your question but do elaborate more if i didn't
