“The Last Call” our first ever event for the public, showcases the talents of the children in the fields of Dance and Drama. This dance drama raises serious environmental questions. Some of these concerns are: lack of rain water harvesting, drying up of the city’s lakes, selling of agricultural land by farmers of villages in the outskirts of the city in order to make a fast buck, and the resulting destruction of the flora and fauna. This futuristic play is set in 2043 AD. Due to severe drought water is dispensed for drinking and washing purposes in vending machines in designated parts of the city. Even the rich and affluent are forced to buy water like this. There are no trees, plants, animals, birds or butterflies in the city. All the trees have been burnt down and people do not know what the charred stumps once looked like. The people of the city therefore assemble to try and understand what went wrong and whether they can be proactive to rejuvenate Nature.
The main characters of the play are Kaalima- a visionary and seer, the children of the city and affluent white colored workers – predominantly IT professionals. It is Kaalima and the children who are tuned into Nature’s needs and know how to remedy the mistakes humans have made in the past. In a meeting Kaalima and the children tell the adults all that had happened in the past. Inspired by these stories the people of the future decide to break up the cement concrete which has sealed the earth for decades. They let earth breathe. Under the guidance of Kaalima and Mallappa, the farmer they try their best to grow plants, they hunt for seeds tend them sensitively, buy water to water the plants and slowly their individual efforts become a community event with corporates and schools pitching in. Slowly plants peep out of the ground to the relief of the people. Still there is no rain….. But as the play ends almost as if to bless the people’s selfless and painful efforts the heavens open and rain floods the city….. “The Last Call” demonstrates that a good idea always motivates people and that together we can make miracles ….. As a team we can empower underprivileged children and make a movement of this… Join us as we celebrate our children … support them and our cause by coming to cheer them….
