About 2 months ago my 7 year old daughter started having problems going to bed and in fact throughout the night sometimes. Having slept perfectly for 7 years she's suddenly started asking very silly questions and the same questions every night eg Is my door shut enough, are there spiders (having already been and checked the whole room out), is my mat straight. Every time we try and leave the room having read a story with her she calls us back to ask another question and then continues calling down to us for up to an hour with the same questions. We've talked endlessly to her to try and find out if something's bothering her. We leave a light on outside her bedroom, we've stopped chocolate near to bedtime and control TV watching. We've taken away treats etc and even resorted to a smack when all else seems to have failed. This obviously has not worked either and in fact she's even asking for a smack now. We don't know whether she's simply trying it on or whether there is a greater problem here. She's extremely strong willed but a normal little girl, doing well at school with good general behaviour. We are exhausted because sometimes she gets up 4 times in the night as well. Any suggestions would be brilliant as we're obviously not dealing with this at all well.
