I tutor my neighbor's six year old in English because he is first generation American. His English is very good, and you would not be able to tell at all that English is not the primary language spoken in his home. He is a very smart child, and is gifted at reading. The main problem with him is getting him to write. He does not like writing so I have to constantly stay on top of him to do his writing. I know he has a lot he could write about because when we talk about a topic, he says about twenty things per minute. But he never wants to write any of the things down. When he does write it is mostly "I like, I like, I like...". I want him to be able to branch out more. Any suggestions?
