Everyone mistakes my 7 year old's anxiety for excitement
by Penny
My 7 year old girl is very gentle and sensitive and seems to give off the wrong signals about her feelings. There always seems to be one boy who frightens her excessively. I have spoken to all her teachers, every year and they tell me she has fun in the playground. I stayed behind to secretly watch one day and even to me it looked like she was having fun. She seems to squeal with delight and plays back, not running away in a fearful manner. But then she comes home and tells me she is really scared. She obsessed over these situations asking many questions and gets quite excitable. But afterwards she seems to go into a slump and is very tired and uncommunicative. I am worried that this constant anxiety could turn into an anxiety disorder. Does anyone have any advice on how I can help her learn to communicate her feelings so that the rest of the world understands?
