daughter's father moves 1 1/2 hours away and wants her every other weekend.

by Helida
(Madison, Wiscon)

Is this fair to my 3 year old? First when the father moved out when she was 1 he insisted on digitally recording our discussion about parenting. He made me promise that I would never leave the city in which we reside. I think he was worried I would move away. Anyway, I did have an opportunity to leave but didn't because of our agreement and also I wouldn't want our daughter to travel every other weekend. Ironically, he is the one who has physically moved to be with his girlfriend, newborn and her 4 and 6 year old girls. I approve of once a month overnights from Friday to Sunday. But I said that either she should visit for the day or he should come here (where we live) and spend time with her. We weren't married, he isn't on the birth certificate (he forgot to turn the form in but doesn't know it yet), and she has lived with me since he left. In 2010, he had her overnight 4 times, 2011 so far 24 overnights. He wants her next weekend but there is a neighborhood party with kids and parents. I don't know if he is going to get a lawyer to try to get her every other weekend. I recently reminded him that it was his choice to move, that he shouldn't blame me for not seeing her enough (which he does), and that she needs to spend time in her neighborhood, home, and community. I think ever other week 1 1/2 hours either way is too much. He also threatened to get 50/50 custody and have her live there 1/2 the time. He still works in our city and commutes to his new home daily. I live in Wisconsin. I guess I think that if he cared about her life he wouldn't want her to have to travel so much and miss her activities/events here. If we went to court (I don't think he has the money, but I do) what are the chances that he could get her 50/50 or every other weekend?
