Creative ways to control kids from watching too much TV Programmes

I like to know how can i stop my 2 boys from watching too much TV programmes. The first thing they do when they come back from school is to turn on the TV and simply can't seem to control themselves. Does anyone know of creative ways that can control your child on their TV routine?

It may sound silly but imagination is the key. Take out favorite toys, or even video games that keep you active. Distract them, take them places, and, if it comes to this, bribe them with candy or a small prize, telling them if they only watch 1 or 2 hours of telivision they can get a candy or prize. Sign your child up for an activity. Or play with your child, use your imagination, anything you can think of. But, if it comes to this, remove, hide or move your t.v. Yet, you should try as much as you can before it comes to that. Hope this helps!!!!!

I came up with a code of rules to restrict the amount of time they can watch TV.
An example would be that you make a deal with them that they can only have an hour to watch right after they have taken their bath. Then it should be meal time. After that, there should be NO MORE TV for the rest of the day or evening.
And if its their favorite show at say 9pm, then you can adapt your rules accordingly. YOu can set the rules to only an hr a day max. And if they exceeded the hr for the day, they will have no more 'credit' for any TV programmes the following day :)
