Child constantly going to nurses office saying she is sick...

My 8 year old daughter is complaining of not feeling well at school constantly. Sometimes it's that her throat hurts, sometimes she says she just feels yucky. When I spoke to her teacher --it had been every single day that week!

She often goes to the office and has her temperature taken, and throat checked. Physically she seems fine. She's had a well child exam and follow-up... clean bill of health.

I think she may be having some anxiety. It runs in my family. She often complains about how loud it is at school.

I don't know what to do. She gets excellent grades, and does very well socially too. I've tried spending extra time with her, even showing up to have lunch with her at school. Still, off to the nurse she goes!

Any ideas? Please help.

Lyme Disease
by: Anonymous

Check to see if she has Lyme Disease. You don't have to live by the woods or have a bulls-eye rash to be infected. Do some research online (go find a support forum; those people are down in the trenches and will give you the skinny), and see if the symptoms line up.

She could be having a problem at school and using the nurse as a "break" (haven't we all done that at one time or another?), but until you know for sure, I would believe her and investigate further.

Child complaining of feeling sick everyday
by: Anonymous

My 9 year old daughter is constantly complaining of being sick and seems to copy the illness of whatever her oldest twin brothers had the day before, Do you think she should go to a behavioral health doctor t0 make sure she is ok?

same issue

I am experiencing the exact same issue with my 8 year old daughter. She will ask to go to the nurse everyday or try and get out of school every day. Did anyone have any suggestions that helped with your child.

Well, her iron levels are good. Doctor gave her a thorough exam and said she may have had some random virus. ??? but come back if she's still complaining in 2 weeks.

So, I feel like I took a day off work, which I really couldn't afford to do and paid her co-pay/ deductible for no reason. ugh!
