can the police legally video interview a child with just a social and no parent present

my daughter was accidently hit when my husband was trying to chuck the her boots into our living room and she was video interviewed with the police and social worker present but i weren't allowed to be present is that legal as she is very confused and doesn't understand anything thats going on
