my son is 7 yrs old , we have found out he haves a learning disability. he acts out in class , disrespects the teacher specifically and will hit any kid that does anger him. We currently do have somewhat of support from school academically but at home I dont know what else to do to help him to help himself.??
we are currently dealing with similar problems with our son {4} i have found help for him through family services in our area they are providing counciling for both of us and stratigies to assist with his anger out burst. It hard and take lot of hard work it wont change overnight. My advise to you is contact family services, family doctor and make them listen get as much support from family and friends. Look after yourself take some time out for you so you can continue caring for your son.

Try talking to him about his emotions by: Joan
i am not a counselor but have read books on anger management for kids and certain related books. Having learning disabilities is tough. I am sure he must be feeling terrible and probably that has affected his self esteem a bit. Have you ever tried to talk to him about his emotions ? Emotions when bottled up and not let out will choke and may cause him to turn into anger and tantrums. Helping him to identify the root cause of his anger will help. I suggest sitting down with him and then listing down a list of emotions...like..frustrated, sad, disappointed, etc...and then let him select an emotion he is feeling. Then take time to talk to him and see if he opens up..
