While sitting in a closet waiting out a tornado warning, my daughter-in-law and grandson were home alone while my son and granddaughter were on the other side of town running an errand. My 9 yr. old grandson, Gavin, a twin, told his mom, "if we make it out of this, I'm supposed to bring an Abraham Lincoln costume to school tomorrow for a presentation". His mom said, "Gavin, you thought it would be a good time to tell me this while we're sitting in a closet at 8:30 at night? Where do you suppose I'm going to find this costume?" Gavin said, "I don't know, maybe I could wear one of Dad's tuxedos." "Gavin, Dad doesn't have any tuxedos." "Oh, maybe I could wear one of his suits with a tie". So then, the next morning, she's telling his twin sister, Megan this story. She said, "oh yeah, I'm supposed to dress up like Laura Ingalls today". She sent Gavin off with a big hat and a vest from his magician costume and Megan wore a dress with a floral print and braids in her hair.
Way to be proactive, Gavin! Without realizing it, Gavin turned a serious situation into a different direction and gave focus on other thoughts. What a blessing he is to his family.
