5 year old son emotional due to current absent father

My 5 year old son loves his father but he recently got majorly into drugs and my son hasn't seen him. He acts out at school by being very sensitive and emotional when things don't go his way. I feel so bad for him, Im wondering if he needs to talk to a therapist or if anyone has dealt with this type of situation before?
