My 4-years-old nephew drinks 2-3 cokes daily. His parents are trying to stop him, but then he starts shouting and crying, so they finally let him drink. What should we do to stop this?

Thanks very much for your response! I totally agree with you. It seems that his parents have lost control... I will try to do my best to help them, because I think they need help first.

Okay, your nephews parents seem to need a reminder that they are the parents. Giving in now over something like a drink is going to lead to him learning that he can get whatever he wants by screaming and throwing a fit. Now is the time to establish a sense of respect for authority and not later when his behavior traits are set in. They need to just let him "scream" it out and then provide consequences such as a time-out for such poor behavior. The more consistent they are the better results they will get. It is trying at times, but in order to have respectful children who learn to take responsibility for their own actions, we parents need to stand firm, caring, but firm. We don't do our kids any favors by letting them think that this kind of behavior is good.
