My son use to talk with me all the time. Since he turned 15 he started to get more closed mouthed. Now at 16 I can't get him to open up. He will talk about bikes and what he wants to buy, but the important things like school, not a word. He is an above average kid in school, 75-85% if he applies himself. In the past we have discussed drug use and what happens to people who start with pot and how it affects them. I do see some signs that indicate he has been exposed to pot. Any one else living with something similar?

16 year old boys.....how to get them to talk.
Just patiently wait till he opens up to you. But make sure you know how he is progressing at school. Make sure that he adheres to curfews and try to find out about the friends he has. If you pry too much into his affairs he will become even more secretive. So keep eyes and ears open and be patient. All boys that age like to live their own lives!

16 Year Old Son by: Anonymous
I also have a 16 year old son. I just wrote a post about him, due to the problem of pot and some times liquor. We detected pot but couldn't prove it, until this weekend. What I noticed were these signs. Very red eyes. Running right upstairs when he got home, saying he was exhausted. Always insist on talking to your child in a well lit room before retiring for bed. Secondly, red eyes is another thing to look for. Having the munchies. If you suspect your probably right. Can you ask him, "Have you ever smoked pot?" "Do your friends smoke pot?" Don't be afraid to ask questions. Also, look closely at his response. Is he telling the truth? We found pot in my sons bedroom last weekend when he was out. He admitted everything to us. He was incredibly honest. We are still a bit baffled by his honesty. My Husband thinks he is asking for help by being so frank with us. I think the first step is to try to get you Son talking, even a little bit. Start small and then work your way into difficult terrain. I think parents are sometimes afraid themselves. Good Luck. Let us know how it goes.
