My 12 year old granddaughter does not speak to me. I have heard her talk (very softly) to her mother or father. When I ask her a question, she looks at her parents for the answer. I have given up trying to talk to her. She is homeschooled and really has no friends her age to play with. She plays with her 13 year old brother and they are very congenial to each other. Does she have Selective Mutism? How can I get her mother to know this? I have noticed that she is very quick to do anything her mother requests...setting the table, feeding the cats, etc. She never talks back or complains. She seems very eager to satisfy any requests. She is very smart and reads a lot.
